Some Background
While the early version were scribbled on paper and later moved into a word document, the production of the ebook and PDFs was done using the Latex and the Latex to HTML functionalities at overleaf.com. Here, I made use of a wonderful ebook template by Clemens Lode (lode.de). Besides providing all the technical means to produce the final set of files, it also gave an excellent structure that made me learn quite a bit about front matter, back matter and all the other parts of a book that I never consciously realized.
At the end of the process, I had an HTML file that could be uploaded to the KDP platform – only after creating a ‘.NCX’ index file by hand with Notepad++ as this was not part of the template package output.
Drawings I made by hand on my iPad – most of them actually with my index finger, the more delicate ones with the Apple Pencil. I used Paper 53 as a drawing program. It was tremendously helpful as it smoothed out many of the jitters I usually create when drawing on paper – and I could repeat endlessly until things looked as they should.
